I know what you are thinking … the title should be Harold and Kumar go to white castle, but wait that’s not it…
This is a story of two roommates, for convenience I am referring to them as Harold and Kumar. One night last week, they were craving McDonald’s in the middle of the night. Now since either of them didn’t have a car at that moment, our friends walk over to the nearest drive through. They were in for a shock when the lady in the drive through window told them that since they were not in a car, they could not be served in the drive through lane. It was against restaurant policy. I know… fast food restaurant having a policy!!. I forgot to mention that kumar had a black eye from a previous incident and was sporting an eye patch.
Now Harold and Kumar were desperately craving this food. So not wanting to be outdone, they called for a cab at the McDonald’s, got into it and attempted to get some food. They offered to buy the cab driver some food too!
So to satisfy their cravings harold and kumar spent 8$ on the fast food and 10$ on the cab ride home!!

It seems like not too long ago that we welcomed 2008 and now we are already in 2009. Where did 2008 go? Looking back on 2008 I realize that it was a year filled with excitement and adventure.
Here’s to the highlights of 2008
- The year started on a good note …. It was a very pretty “white new year” and no car stunts reported.
- It was still cold when I ran into some car trouble… Had to have my car towed 3 times in 4 days in spite of having a new alternator… they sold me a faulty one.
- I ran my first 10K in March… in 66 minutes. It was my first outdoor run of any kind.
- I was able to experience the thrill of sledding, thanks to a humango snow storm in April… even got a couple of snow days from work.
- On may 4th pigs finally did fly in Cincinnati, I ran and completed my first half marathon.
- We had a pretty good cricket season this year, we made the semi-finals of the first tournament, finished the other 6-2 after starting 0-2, but we couldn’t keep the tempo up and lost to Purdue in the pre-quarter finals.
- In September I was in my first car accident, on my way to work some guy in the other lane lost control, crossed over 2 lanes and hit it…. I am living testimony to the statement… “Seatbelts save lives!” My poor baby was totaled.
- In October I travelled to Columbus to run and finish the Columbus half marathon.
- In November I bought a “new used car” - 1996 Acura Integra… burgundy
We had a fabulous New Year party at R’s and what a way to cap off a pretty good year!!
I got a good 4 mile run in yesterday. A good way to start the New Year… though need to wear gloves on the next run!!
Happy New Year!

So even though I didn’t get to play the pre-quarters..the boys took care of business and eliminated the organisers… they had eliminated us from the tournament 2 years ago and we sort of returned the favor. last weekend we played the Top ranked team from the group stages in the quarter’s. Nick gun was unavailable for the game, he was at the top of the scoring chart for the tournament after the pre-quarters. We lost the toss (again) and were asked to bowl. We dropped 2 catches in the first 7 balls.(I dropped a skier) This was not looking good. But we turned it around and got them out for 89. The target was 90. Andy opened and returned without troubling the scorers. This was not looking good. We pulled it together and at one point the equation was 6 runs of 16 balls. Then it came down to 3 runs of 11 balls… and then we lost 3 wickets…I couldn’t believe it … we finally won it fair and square with 3 balls to spare and 2 wickets in hand.
Next week Nick gun can play the semis and maybe seal the best batsman award, I hope he does!!
The cricket season started on a relatively good note… a not so very impressive victory over miamisburg, an improvement over last seasons opening. The next day I sprained my ankle while attempting a shot at my soccer game… It was nasty… I heard something pop…. but I guess it was the shin guard popping. So as a result I missed the next 3 games of which we lost two… one by 4 runs… We had a prequater final game this weekend… it was supposed to be Saturday afternoon, the ankle was still a little tender, but we were in win or go home territory now. Mother nature didn’t like my plans and poured all over them on Saturday. The game got pushed to Sunday afternoon. I had something important going on Sunday morning, but I still agreed to play in the afternoon, so we went and practiced for 4 hours on Saturday, we were barely into an hour of practice when we got a call tell us the game was at 11 am instead of 3 pm.
So as a result, I couldn’t play at all!!!
In the four yrs I have lived in the nati, it turns out that I havnt really been around the place. There is so much around here that I am unaware of. Couple of weekends ago we went to the Cincinnati Nature Center. I couldnt believe it, the place is gorgeous. It has over 14 miles of hiking trails, and each trail has something special about it. They have picnic areas, bird observation decks and the works.. We observed the sunbathing rituals of turtles and the struggle to get up on the log… now I know why they dont move once they are on the log!
Its must see for nature enthusiasts in Cincinnati.
It rained the previous night and….
In the second week of march, we had a really big snow storm. I was a little upset that it started friday night…. that meant I would not get a snow day at work…. but thats not important… I was very happy because it was the perfect opportunity to try out my brand spanking new sleds ( well they werent brand spanking new… but it was the first time I would use them) We had an accumulation of about 8-10 inches…. perfect!!
Burnet woods is a nice little place to go sledding. There was no one on the streets, so it was even better…. the first few runs downhill were a little slow… but once we got the path set…. we were gaining quite a bit of momentum. Eventually we started ending up on the street, when we decided to call it a day. On the way home we had some fun with my car…
The next day we picked one of the slopes that did not end up on the streets and used it… someone had been there before us and a nice path was waiting for us…
A few hours later when our butts couldnt take it any more, we called it a day and returned home for some hot chocolate… Monday morning the snow was gone, but the pain had arrived. But you know what they say…No pain No gain!!!
Dont get the wrong idea… I dont actually have a poem about my car troubles…
This winter has been really brutal on my wallet… first the alternator died… which I replaced with Brian’s help… then in a span of three days my car died twice on me… once in the middle of a parking lot… where it refused to start after jumping it for over 10 mins… the minute I turned the lights on the engine would die… the next time it was in the middle of the highway… all of a sudden I lost all power… I switched on the hazards and tried to coast to the shoulder.. then I realized the hazards weren’t working either ( I sure am glad this happened during the day)… Two towings in three days… AAA totally rocks… The first time I had to leave the car in the lot and called AAA while leaving from work the next day… believe it or not the tow truck beat me there… the second time around the tow truck arrived within 30 mins.. Since I was sitting on the interstate, I was a priority client.. I tell you, AAA is money well spent.
The mechanic was surprised to see me back there so soon, he identified the problem as a bad alternator (after intensive testing). So I ended up paying labor on the installation this time…
Last week we got a lot of rain and then it got really cold. As a result everything was frozen the next morning.. While trying to open the door I broke the door knob from the inside.
I need to get that fixed coz it is the driver side door, and I need to get in.
SO I looked for the part at auto zone and advance auto parts, but neither of them carry it.
I talked to a mechanic who said that the part would have to be ordered from the Acura dealer.. great … that means its gonna be a pricey affair.
My Fix: I roll the window down, stick my hand out and open the door from the outside.
and when the weather gets warmer… its time to go junkyarding!!!!!
I am borrowing this idea from somewhere, where you post your own dialogue for a still.

Picture this:
A cold wintry morning when your car is iced over and its really freezing outside. You somehow yank the door open and get in to start the car. You get your scraper out and clear off the ice… which is really a pain. A painstaking 5 mins later you get in your car and close the door.. but the door wont close. So you start driving holding on to the door with you left hand and changing gears while steering with your right. On right turns the centrifugal force pushing the door out and holding on to it to prevent a disaster. Did I tell you its freezing outside? Then you get to work and voila the door closes!!
My reaction: Argghhh #$#!!*
What about yours??
